The Japanese word “Kuso” refers to something that is very funny, ridiculous, stupid or prankish. The artist uses a Kuso approach when deconstructing the Chinese characters that make up the title “Seven Rainbow Faires” into five separate and independent characters: Cai, Hong, Qi, Xian, Zi.At the same time, he also uses the color of the various elements; metal, wood, water, fire, and earth – white, green, blue, red, yellow - as his focus colors. Despite using these elements, the artist does not attempt to enage in philosophical discussion or offer definitons. In other words, this is more a playful and superficial work, highlighting the fact that the fashionable young people who gather in Ximending and their Kuso type behavior is an accurate reflection of the popular sub culture phenomenon.
