The Sleeping Knights is a woodcut in which Skoczylas refers to the well-known Polish legend of Sleeping Knights who await a response to wake up and fight for freedom. The woodcut was made in 1914, at the outbreak of the First World War. It was the time when Polish hopes for regaining the longed-for independence were awakened.xx
