The Kihansi spray toad had a very specific habitat, it was only known to live in one place in Tanzania, the Kihansi River Falls. The construction of a hydroelectric dam above the waterfalls reduced the volume of water flowing through the gorge by about 90 %, almost causing it to become extinct. Currently, the Kihansi spray toad has only survived as part of the Species Survival Plan by the American zoo association AZA.
