This painting depicts Mesopotamian civilisation in all its glory, diversity, wisdom and multitude. The different sections of the painting represent different consecutive stages of the ancient and illustrious Iraqi civilisation. History, science, technology, art and literature are all represented. The artist seeks to place Mosul’s current situation within the context of the city’s 7,000 years of civilisation and show that this too shall pass. Mosul stood strong throughout many ages of conflict, destruction and darkness, it will stand strong and persist in the face of Daesh. Mosul will rise again to glory as it is indelibly marked across history and cannot be destroyed by a few years of occupation.
