A horse-drawn float with a model church making its way past the spectators at the celebrations for the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in March 1932. It has incorrectly been labelled "Sydney University Float" by a previous owner.

The design and construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge was overseen by John Job Crew Bradfield, the University of Sydney's first engineering PhD recipient.

  • Provenance: Formerly owned by Colin Berckelman (1907-1965). Berckelman was a passionate collector of books, manuscripts and bookplates. He was an active member of the Society of Australian Genealogists, the Royal Australian Historical Society, and a founding member of the Book Collectors' Society of Australia. Following Berckelman's death, his collection was purchased by the Library in 1966/67. Most of the collection was dispersed throughout the University's libraries but the rare and significant works, manuscripts, personal archive, photographs, printing blocks, and his collection of bookplates remain in Rare Books and Special Collections.
