The treasure of the Bronze Age

In addition to their functional value, sickles had great symbolic meaning. As grave goods, they defined their owner as a landowner, in hoards they represented a high value as commodity money. The five sickles of Daerstorf were probably sunken in the moor as a votive offering to the gods.
