The War of the Worlds, illustration for chapter 26

Illustration for the French translation and first French illustrated edition of of The War of the Worlds (La guerre des mondes). Printed in France in 1906. Only 500 copies were printed of this edition, each signed by the Brazilian artist, Corrêa.

This illustration is captioned "... en une seule semaine l'examen des mécanismes marsiens avait donné des résultats surprenants. (Chapitre XXVI)". The original English story is phrased slightly differently as "... in one week the examination of the Martian mechanisms had yielded astonishing results."
