Through All Your Senses: A multisensory interaction with the art of Lee Ungno

One of the elements considered important in contemporary art is audience interactivity. Today, a work of art is no longer an object to be looked at from a distance operating as the exclusive avenue of relation to the artist, but rather is a platform on which the audience can engage in the making of art and in a form of communication with the artist that goes in both directions. This exhibition, designed as a place for the sensory experience of Lee Ungno’s art through the use of digital media, invites audience members to create their own variations of his work.
Embodied in interactive sound and digital imagery, Lee’s work reacts to audience movements through built-in motion sensors and creates free conversational flows both physical and psychological between the audience and the artwork. This experience allows visitors to connect more strongly with each piece and with the artist. The understanding that participation brings each work to a different conclusion encourages the move from passive appreciation to active engagement. The audience becomes a bold improviser, filling the space with its creative buzz.
Through this variation in the avenues of artistic experience via digital media, the humanistic sensibilities of Lee and his work will inspire and resonate with visitors differently according to their own interactions with the artwork. In this way, the experience of Lee’s work becomes a conversation. Through their varying visual manifestations, Lee’s works remain constantly in transition. This art-in-progress will be an insightful account of Lee’s art.
