In the late Middle Ages, the tiled stove found its way into burghers’ homes. Such stoves were mostly fired from an adjoining room. Since the 15th century, they increasingly served to represent their owners’ status. The green or black glazed stove tiles depict saints and noblemen, as well as religious scenes.
