Gorofukuren is the name given to a type of imported thin and rough fabric woven from wool and hemp or cotton. The metallic ornament on the pouch is fashioned after a plaything called buriburi. The same-cloth pipe case is believed to predate the cylindrical case. The front piece (maesashi) is placed over the kimono sash.
