Ken, started by Esquire publisher David Smart and editor Arnold Gingrich, was a mostly visual publication, originally meant to convey a leftest perspective of world events. Ernest Hemingway wrote for Ken about the Spanish Civil War. The publication was investigated for being Communist, but Gingrich always denied it had any political leanings.
