- History of Style of Technique: Home is the central place for a householder. And the house with its kitchen and furnishings is the reflection of a person’s values and traditions. Women thus focus primarily on both. Hence the tradition of making a wide range of furnishings of different materials using various techniques has survived so long. In rural India, especially in Gujarat and Rajasthan, the bride-to-be usually craft these furnishings as a testimony to her creative skills. The state of Gujarat is specially famous for its bead furnishings. Artisans were involved in bead making since ancient times. In the 19th century, Bania traders from Kutch and Saurashtra based in Zanzibar were engaged in the trade with East Africa. One of the main items of import from East Africa was Venetian Murano beads. People preferred these beads to create the household decorative and furnishing items. This age-old craft of bead work is a living tradition that continues till today in western India.
