Tree of Life was created by South African artist Abraham Makhabela (1966-2007). The work is his impression of the tree of life from the book of Genesis, the tree that caused the fall of humanity. Short Biography: Makhabela was born in Marble Hall district in 1966. He came to work at the University of Pretoria in 1987 as an assistant technician in the sculpture studios. His work greatly sought after by many collectors and he participated in national art competitions such as the Sasol New Signatures Awards and the PPC Young Concrete Sculptors Competition. Makhabela passed away in 2007. Makhabela's work had a deep religious conviction which always permeated his work. Conventional compositions and techniques are borrowed from the history of art and rendered with personal view.
