Tsuji banzuke (Street Poster) for "Kanadehon Chushingura"

Staged at Morita-za theater of Edo in Kanen 2 (1749). Kanatehon Chushingura (The Treasury of Loyal Retainers) is originally a ningyo joruri drama first staged at Takemoto-za theater of Osaka in August of Kanen 1. Since than it was performed in both joruri and kabuki as a popular play with numbers of performances. It was firstly adapted into kabuki in Osaka in December of the year it was first staged, and was put on stage by the three theaters of Edo in the year following. This material is a crossroad poster of Morita-za theater, the first one of the three theaters to start the performance, and also a valuable material of the first performance in Edo of Chushigura that should be commemorated. Crossroad posters were usually posted in places where people gathered together such like barbershops, and played a role in promoting plays like posters. We can see illustrations in the upper tier and the cast list of actors.
