Ulrich Henn Bronze Doors

The monumental pierced doors set into each portal of the west façade were created by German artist Ulrich Henn, and were cast in bronze using the lost wax method. The gates feature biblical scenes in roundels set in organic, lace-like forms inspired by the flowers and plants of the New World. The open nature of these gates contrasts with the heavy solid doors of most European cathedrals.
