Susana Salvador, Executive Secretary of ACCOBAMS, an intergovernmental organisation composed of 24 countries, and based in Monaco. At a time when biodiversity is collapsing and threats are increasing, it is becoming urgent to intensify monitoring and conservation efforts in the most collaborative way possible, particularly when dealing with highly mobile marine species, like whales and dolphins. Regularly estimating abundance and distribution of cetaceans species is a crucial step towards understanding their conservation status and taking timely action to prevent worsening their conservation status
