Marcha [The March]

Alongside «Resistência» [Resistance] and «Almoço do Trolha» [The Bricklayer’s Lunch], both from 1946, «Marcha» [The March] is one of the emblematic works of the political intervention that marked Júlio Pomar’s work in the late 1940s.

With a close-up composition of faces struggling against fascism - already defeated in the rest of Europe after the war but still persisting in the Iberian Peninsula - the work later gave its title to another painting: a large allegorical portrait from 1952.
