The victory of the Velvet Revolution was topped off by the election of dissident playwright and human rights activist Vaclav Havel as President of the republic at Prague Castle on December 29, 1989. Accompanied by his wife Olga Vaclav Havel addresses from the balcony people on the courtyard after the inauguration ceremony.
