This image, more elaborate, portrays the Virgin with her head partly covered by a short veil that reveals her long wavy golden tresses. Her body is slightly twisted and this, together with other elements, balances the whole and allows us to date it to the late 18th century. The costume corresponds to that usually seen on such baroque images, placing great emphasis on flowing drapery, whose colour and decorative details underscore the grand gesture with which Our Lady presents the Infant Jesus. The high-necked red robe striped in gold is here enveloped in an ample cloak of the usual blue, with large gold stars superimposed over broad gold stripes, an attribute of representations of the Virgin Mary – “Morning Star” in the Litany of the Blessed Virgin.
