Despite the transformations registered throughout the centuries, the building materials remain essentially the same: granite stone, wood, metals and ceramic elements, and most of the time locally sourced. The know-how of the masons and masters, as well as the construction techniques, passed down through generations, thus maintaining some of the formal aspects of the ‘portuense house’ and endowing the city with a visual identity, despite the existence of diverse typologies.
