The first enclosed scoreboard at the WACA Ground was built in 1908 but damaged by a severe storm in 1948. The majority of funding for the new scoreboard, which was erected in 1954, came from the Nor'West and Murchison Cricket Association Members and Supporters. On 24 February a plaque was unveiled dedicating the scoreboard to the memory of cricketers from Western Australia who gave their lives in two world wars. The official unveiling ceremony took place on Nor'West Day when two teams of Nor'Westers played an annual fixture.
