This image shows Wai Chai Main Street of Pokfulam Village in 1868. Wai Chai started as two rows of a total of 18 houses. Due to the development the industry clusters in the neighbourhood, such as Dairy Farm and Tai-Ku-Lao, the demand for daily commodity surged in the mid-20th century, and shops and stalls started to spring up in Wai Chai Main Street. At the most prosperous time, there were as many as 50 vendors along this 100-metre street.
