Waiting

Raja Ravi Varma captures the boredom of waiting in this sketch. Presumably these two gentlemen are waiting for a train on the platform which clearly is delayed. Raja Ravi Varma captures the facial expression on the men who clearly have reconciled to the fate of the inordinate delay. They appear tired and bored with their luggage on the bench beside them. Interestingly, on the wall is an advertisement for 'Pears' soap. Little did Ravi Varma know that a few years later, his paintings, printed at the Ravi Varma Press would also be used to advertise jams, soap and other beauty products.
