Waleria and Wacław Werenczuk, Sierakowice, 20 November 1946. The story of Wacław and Waleria is a tale of how war can bring together people from distant places: she came from Sierakowice, he from the Belarusian village of Jastrząb. Before the war, Wacław Werenczuk served at the Cavalry Training Centre in Grudziądz. As a cavalryman, he took part in the first Polish cavalry charge at the Battle of Krojanty on 1 September 1939, and after being captured ended up in Pomerania. Here he met Waleria and in 1946 they settled in Lębork. Their wedding was modest, but full of hope for a better future. According to the family, the groom made his own wedding ring and wore a borrowed suit, while the bride wore borrowed flowers.
