The plate bears the inscription “Herrijzend Nederland, Naar Vrede en Welvaart” (Resurrecting the Netherlands, to peace and prosperity) and commemorates the liberation of the Netherlands. A Dutch horseman in historicizing apparel proclaims the end of Nazi rule, while his horse symbolically tramples a flag with Nazi emblems underfoot. The silhouette of Maastricht can be seen in the background. Symbols such as oranges, which refer to the House of Orange, the bloodline of the Dutch royal family, decorate the edge of the plate. Also shown besides the Dutch royal coat of arms at the lower edge and the Dutch flag are the flags of the Allies (Great Britain and the USA).
