Wangũ wa Makeri (c. 1856–1915) was the only female Kikuyu chief during the British Colonial period.
The Agikuyu belong to central Bantu-speaking group and mainly established around Mount Kenya and the central highlands (Nyahururu, Thika, Nyeri, Murang’a, Nanyuki, Meru and Embu) in Kenya. The Agikuyu community is among many other Kenyan communities that championed the attainment of Kenya's independence through the Mau Mau movement and the Kikuyu Central Association (KCA).
