White Straw (Calamgrostis efussa) is a type of tussock that grows around Colombia, especially in the Andean region of the country; this genus of plant is abundant in moorlands and similar biomes.
After been picked by hand, the leaves are sundried until they can be used to weave. This process starts with the center or heart of the hat, tied around by hand tying the vertical straw with the horizontal strands. As the hat starts getting wider, new fibers are introduced until the desired proportions are obtained.
