Winter landscape with a distinctive red sky. Ivan Vecenaj's early work. Ivan Vecenaj represents the 2nd generation of the Hlebine Art School with whom the Naive art extends to Prekodravlje, village named Gola.

Ivan Vecenaj was born May 18, 1920 in the village of Gola in Podravina near the Hungarian border. He was the first of six children of a family of poor peasants. Most of his life he was devoted to agriculture. His painting were born from the stories heard in childhood, the old legends of the village; of books found by chance; churches and above all from the earth, the land of Podravina. His work consists of a series of pictures which describes the scenes of everyday life, folk customs and religious scenes. He especially likes to paint a rooster, gorgeous and dangerous that personifies the strength of the climate in Podravina. His first solo exhibition dates back to 1954 in Koprivnica. He died on February 13 2013 in Koprivnica.
