Anti-Pass Campaign - On August 9, 1956, 20 000 women of all races, some with babies on their backs, from the cities and towns, from reserves and villages, took a petition addressed to the Prime Minister to the Union Buildings in Pretoria. He was not in. The petition demanded of Strijdom that the pass laws be abolished. In 1955 - Protest women wait - Women from all over the Reef gathered at the Union Buildings, Pretoria on thursday, October 27, to protest to Cabinet Minister about a suggestion that African women carry passes and against the Bantu Educaion Act.
