William Lindsay White of New York filled on this Selective Service System draft card on February 16, 1942. At the time World War II was raging overseas. White, the son of Kansas newspaper editor William Allen White, never served in the military. Rather he worked as a reporter filing nationally-syndicated reports from Finland, the Netherlands, and London during the Blitz.
Like other U.S. states and regions across the globe, Kansans have served and died in war. The Kansas Museum of History aims to remember them through what they left behind. To see more from our collection please visit: https://www.kshs.org/kansapedia/wars/14569
