World War II Dutch De Porceleyne Fles liberation plate

This earthenware Delft wall plate is inscribed “Nederland zal Herrijzen” literally meaning “The Netherlands shall rise again”. The plate commemorates the WWII liberation of The Netherlands by the Allied Forces on 5 May 1940. It depicts a rising sun over a battle-scarred Netherlands with rays of hope in orange. The plate was decorated by HJ Tieman of De Porceleyne Fles factory and is back marked Delft.
