A handmade toy made of two wooden disks, one maroon and one dark green, joined at the center by a cylinder with a cord wrapped around it. The origins of the yo-yo date back to Antiquity. They became popular and were marketed in the late 19th century on the continent of America. In Filipino, the word yo-yo means to come back, and so it has been called by this word since the 17th century. It works in a similar way to the diabolo: one end of the string is tied to the central piece and the other is tied to the user's finger to push it downwards and make it come up again.
