This painting presents the artist’s protest on behalf of the innocent lives destroyed by the ISIS occupation. Even the purity of the doves in the upper left are tainted by red - everything is bloodstained and tarnished. The child’s gaze is directed towards something beyond the viewer’s reach, the child cannot look directly at the audience, but averts his eyes. The occupation spared no one within the City, not even children.
