"Allegory to the Constitution of the Estado Novo"

Getúlio Vargas portrayed with the presidential sash and the Constitution written to legitimize the Estado Novo dictatorship, introduced by the coup of November 10, 1937. The constitutional text, with a marked antiliberal content, was drawn up by jurist Francisco Campos. It was ready when the coup happened and was launched the same day. The Estado Novo lasted from 1937 until 1945.
