Aromas fill the BBQ meat shop, fulfilling every person’s desire for food and delicious smells. Blood and meat, food and smell, these are the most basic needs and structure of our lives, artist Chang-Ling attempts to dissect “meat” to let you see for yourself the hidden layer of culture.

In 2005, when Chang-Ling returned to Taiwan from Paris, she spent 2 years to face and understand her motherland, rediscover her own identity and the kind of connections between humans and land. Taiwan is a familiar but yet strange place to her, the external environment is so fuzzy, and full of uncertainty. Therefore, Chang-Ling started by returning to the original spot of her own body. Through analysis, regrouping, layer-by-layer of deduction, she restores the meat and concludes “the 3 elements- meat pieces, bone structure and blood”, to structure living bodies’ fundamentals, can also be analyzed and disperse between heaven and earth.

“The most basic component of the body is the cell; the most basic instinct is to survive.” Reducing desire structure to the original spot from the perspectives of the society, with the memory of ROC culture to create a unique topic based on the basic structure of my body. Blood and meat, the connection between the nervous system and values, meat will be the constituent, blood be the triggering medium, combining desire, and spark 5 cultural topics, called the “Streaky Pork” series. With the formation of heaven and earth (meat mountain water), sprouting and animal evolution (meat flower bird), intelligent civilization appear (meat city), war explosion due to desire (meat soldier equipment), return to the quiet exoneration of the spirit (meat culture).
