Produced in Yatsushiro city in the southern part of Kumamoto prefecture, Yatsushiro Ware is a handicraft representative of the prefecture with 400 years of history. During the Edo period refined wares with unique inlay patterns became widely known across Japan. Mt. Ogi (ogi means ‘folding fan’) in Kōda that has watched over generations of the Agano family of potters. Some potters in the past even used seals with a fan shape to mark their work.
