The New Official Regulations on the Prohibition of the Use of Postiche Braids for Women is a Royal Document issued by King Jeongjo in 1788 prohibiting women’s use of postiche braids (gache), which were deemed to be an excessive display of luxury. In order to make it possible for more people to understand and comply with these regulations, King Jeongjo ordered the compilation and publication of both the Hanmun and vernacular versions.
