Three Star Gods

The painting features the gathering of three star gods that symbolize good fortune, emolument and longevity. The peach held out by Longevity God forms the center of the stage. The idea of three star gods was first developed during the Ming Dynasty and spread out wide around the time of Qing Dynasty. As the art works associated with these three stars rose as a popular subject to represent a good fortune they were produced and sold far and wide to be offered at celebratory occasions such as one’s 60th birthday.
