The right screen shows Takao with colors of autumn leaves stretching along the gorge, while the left screen shows Arashiyama with gloriously blossoming cherry trees. Arashiyama gradually became a renowned cherry blossom viewing spot after Emperor Gosaga planted cherry trees from Yoshino on Arashiyama in the Kamakura period (1185-1333). This work depicts all the things to see in Arashiyama: a raftsman, the cherry blossoms and Hōrinji Temple, famous for its ' Jūsanmairi' (a visit to the temple celebrating the child’s growth), shown on the mountain to the left. Yano Yachō was born into a family of cartographers and studied painting under Yamaguchi Soken (1759-1818), a pupil of Maruyama Ōkyo.
