Bamboo used in Homes
As is typical of areas inhabited by tribal communities, utility items in bamboo are deeply entrenched in the lifestyles of its rural people. The beauty of the many varieties of bamboo lies in its versatility as does the coconut or banana tree serve multiple purposes in other parts of India. Most indigenous tribes in forests and isolated rural areas and even major communities living near small towns have used bamboo to provide for their many needs over centuries. From walls of homes, bridges, fences and walls, fine screens to fishing rods, bamboo shoot for cooking, cooking implements, walking sticks, and even fine jewelry, bamboo has served every imaginable purpose.

Building A Bamboo Village.
The people of Tripura not only use nature’s bounty to fulfill their needs but are now organizing themselves to become competent entrepreneurs. Women are forming Self Help Groups to fund, produce and market their collective produce and the state government is facilitating e-marketing where small craftsmen and vendors can engage directly with government agencies as their clients across the country. The all-pervading presence of bamboo in all its forms and usages is felt across the state whether in and around the capital, Agartala, or in rural areas nearby like Katlamara in Sidhal, West Tripura.
