Hopchytsya History Museum

Hopchytsia, Ukraine

The Museum of the History of Hopchytsa is a place that preserves the memory of one of the oldest and most remarkable villages in the region. Hopchytsia lies near the sources of the Ros River, on the border between Kyivshchyna and Podillia—at the crossroads of routes and events that have shaped Ukraine’s history.

The museum opened in 1990. Its exhibition is housed in two buildings and seven halls, while its collections hold more than 500 items: from natural specimens and everyday household objects to documents and photographs. The interiors of the exhibition spaces were designed with the involvement of local craftsmen and specialists from Kyiv.

The collection was built over the years by the people of Hopchytsia—Anton Kolesnyk, Stepan Ohirchuk, Mykhailo Petrenko, Dmytro Salizhenko, and Oleksandr Salizhenko. Thanks to their dedication, the museum has become more than a repository of artefacts: it is a living story of the community, and a reminder that great culture begins in a small village—and in the people who refuse to let memory fade.
