The creation of the Instituto dos Arquitetos do Brasil, department from the Federal District (IAB-DF) predates the inauguration of Brasília, on 21 April 1960.

In Brasília, since its creation, the IAB-DF has participated in the construction and consolidation of the new capital. Its board of associates was formed by architects who came to build and participate in the monumental construction taking place in the Brazilian Center-West, bringing infrastructure to the interior of the country.

The integration of the IAB-DF with six schools of architecture located in Brasília and, most of all, with the University of Brasília, as well as the participation in councils from the Government of the Federal District are among a few of the department's operations in the capital.
