The Kansas City Public Library system, established in 1873, consists of ten locations - the Central Library and nine branches - and serves approximately 218,765 in-district customers and a million and a half from the surrounding metropolitan area. The Library is a leader in digitization and electronic access to local history and has been awarded multiple awards and grants for its work in this area.
