The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Lucerne School of Art and Design is the oldest college of art and design in German-speaking Switzerland. Backed by almost 140 years of tradition, it moves forward into the future with confidence. It offers a vivid and challenging environment that inspires research and teaching – one in which the students can hone their practical skills and acquire a qualified portfolio that will prepare them for a successful career entry into the cultural and creative sector.
In the project Silk Memory a research team is working on an online database offering access to textile design jewels. Silk Memory offers online access to 200 years of Zurich silk design based on over a dozen corporate archives ranging from Abraham to Weisbrod-Zürrer. In close cooperation with museums, lecturers in textile design and textile professionals Lucerne University develops a database with a best-of selection from the silk archives. The Silk Memory database caters to the needs of both teaching and research and functions as a source of inspiration for contemporary design.
The project is funded by the Lottery Fund of the Canton of Zurich and the Zurich Silk Association.
