Founded in 2014, MPavilion is Australia's leading architecture commission and design event which takes place in Melbourne. Initiated by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation with support from City of Melbourne, the Victorian State Government through Creative Victoria and ANZ, every year an outstanding architect is commissioned to design a temporary pavilion in the Queen Victoria Gardens, in the centre of Melbourne’s Southbank Arts Precinct.
A civic space and cultural laboratory, each MPavilion brings creative collaborators together to present a free, four-month program of talks, workshops, performances and installations from October to February over summer. Previous architects have included Sean Godsell (2014), Amanda Levete (2015) and Bijoy Jain (2016). MPavilion 2017 will be designed by OMA / Rem Koolhaas & David Gianotten.
