The International Art Nouveau Week (ANW) is an event born with the aim of disseminating, promoting and protecting Art Nouveau works around the world in an international event.

Art Nouveau week is a cultural event that takes place all over the world from the second week of July and is promoted by the ITALIA LIBERTY Association, curated by Andrea Speziali in collaboration and with the patronage of public and private entities.

The program offers a wide calendar of events from 8 to 14 July each year and is aimed at anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the evocative atmosphere of Art Nouveau, in Italy and abroad.

It was designed by Giuseppe Sommaruga in 1912 in Milan. It is located in via Michelangelo Buonarroti 48 and is one of the thousand Art Nouveau buildings that is included during the Art Nouveau week.

Art Nouveau week, that is the week of Liberty was conceived and curated by Andrea Speziali, president of the cultural association Italia Liberty because in this week he identified the recurrence of both the anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Sommaruga and that of Gustav Klimt, unsurpassed artist of the Viennese Secession, as well as: Otto Wagner, Giovanni Michelazzi, Salvatore Gregorietti, William Henry Bradley, Siegmund von Suchodolski, Fernand Allard l'Olivier and Charles Cottet.

The curator of the event

To conceive and curate the week of Liberty was Andrea Speziali, the leading expert of this style. In the photo it is located at the Casino of San Pellegrino Terme, designed by Romolo Squadrelli in 1907: one of the thousand buildings that can be visited during the Art Nouveau week

What to see during the Art Nouveau week

Publicly and privately owned villas, palaces, hotels, monuments, museums and works of art. There are over a thousand sites around the world to visit with tourist guides in presence and / or online depending on the opportunities.

When Art Nouveau week ends

The Liberty week ends every year on July 8 with a double celebratory event in memory of the birth of Gustav Klimt and the death of Alphonse Mucha on the same day. They are two great protagonists of this artistic current.

There are also works of art and workshops that produce handicrafts such as ceramics and jewels. In Pesaro there is a stop at the Molaroni Artistic Ceramics Factory. Particularly important company for early twentieth century.
