Updated version of Adventures inside the Atom. The artwork was largely redone, but the basic content remains similar. GE scientist Ed Powers takes his younger brother Johnny to an exhibit about atomic power. Ed explains how a basic understanding of the elements began in ancient Greece. As they travel through the exhibit, Ed explains the basics of atomics and recent discoveries, including a basic understanding of radioactivity, the development of the cyclotron, Einstein’s theory of matter and energy, early fission experiments, nuclear chain reactions, the Manhattan Project, and the development of plutonium. Safety initiatives including mechanical hands, are mentioned, as is GE’s facility at Hanford, Washington. It offers an expanded list of future uses, adding medical and agricultural uses to the previous list that included ships, submarines, and commercial electric power.
