Chojnik Castle

Situated in the Karkonosze Mountains, close to the town of Jelenia Góra, it's a beautiful medieval fortress.

It's primarily known for its picturesque location and historical value. You can see more of Karkonosze here.

Like many medieval fortresses, it was strategically built on a hilltop. Now it can offer panoramic views of the surrounding nature, making it a convenient viewpoint for tourists.

Nowadays, the castle is partly in ruins, but that doesn't discourage tourists from visiting it. Visitors can easily explore the walls, towers, and courtyards. It's also possible to hike to the castle, which many decide to do.

There is also a legend associated with the Chojnik Castle. Kunegunda was famous both for her beauty and cruelty. Any man who wanted to marry her was given the task of riding around the whole castle on horseback.

Many daredevils fell from the steep wall down to the rocks and died. At last, one of the knights succeeded in the ordeal, but then he refused to marry Kunegunda. Kunegunda, taken by surprise and grief, threw herself from the castle tower and died on the spot.

However, as local people report, they more often see the ghost of the knight on horseback rather than the clad in white spectre of Kunegunda. Curious enough!
