The Chineke! Orchestra works closely with its sister ensemble, the Chineke! Junior Orchestra. The two ensembles were founded simultaneously in 2015 with the aim of creating a pathway of opportunity for emerging and established musicians of Black, Asian and ethnically diverse heritage.

The Chineke! Junior Orchestra acts as a bridge to higher education. The orchestra gives young players opportunity, encouragement and confidence during their formative years, with the hope of increasing the diversity of musicians continuing music into higher education and professional classical music.

With this pathway open, more and more young musicians are now realising their ambitions. Several members of the Junior Orchestra have won national competitions, gained places at top music schools and been admitted to study at elite higher education institutions.

Musicians from the Junior Orchestra performed at the BBC Proms 2019 at London's Royal Albert Hall, alongside the Chineke! Orchestra, BBC Singers and a youth choir.
