Victor Hontariv (1943-2009) was a renowned painter, National Art Academy member, and Shevchenko National Prize winner (2009) for his series "My Gogol." A graduate of Kharkiv Art College (1963), he was a professor at Kharkiv Art Academy.
His works carry a unique visual language of “monumental storytelling” inspired by novels of Mykola Gogol, village scenes of Sloboshanshchyna and artist’s childhood memories. The artist’s unique style was followed by many of his students and he left a number of followers whom are often called “Hontariata”.

Yana, who lost both her legs, and her mother Natalia, who lost a foot, received prostheses in the U.S. After recovery, Yana became an ambassador for the Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center in Lviv, inspiring others with her resilience and determination.
